3 things you must have before your new greyhound arrives
If you're planning on adopting a greyhound, congratulations! These beautiful dogs make wonderful companions. But before you bring your new furry friend home, there are a few things you need to have in order to make their transition as smooth as possible.
Raised Dog Bowls
- Greyhounds are tall dogs with long necks, which means they need raised dog bowls to eat and drink comfortably. However, finding the right raised bowls can be challenging, as most options in pet stores aren't tall enough for these gentle giants. I recommend looking online for raised bowls that are designed for large dog breeds. A great option is the plant raised & large size dog bowl from Kmart, which is affordable and has worked well for my own greyhounds.
A Large Dog Bed
- Another thing to keep in mind is that greyhounds are larger than most dogs, with longer spines and legs. This means they need a big enough dog bed to stretch out comfortably. I recommend investing in a high-quality dog bed with a minimum of 900mm in length for sleeping area. I have the Snooza cuddler bed in size L.
Food and Treats
- Finally, you'll need to have food and treats on hand for your new greyhound. While most adoption and rescue organisations will provide you with some food for the first few days, it's a good idea to have the food you plan to use in the future already purchased. This will allow you to gradually transition your greyhound to their new diet without causing any digestive issues. And don't forget to have some tasty treats on hand to help your new furry friend feel welcome and loved!
By having these three things ready before your greyhound arrives, you'll be able to give them the warm welcome and comfortable home they deserve. Happy adopting!
