Although one of the main benefits of martingale collars is its escape-proof feature, it could be very dangerous if it gets caught into an object such as cabinet knobs or tree branches, as a dog won’t be able to escape from the collar. Martingale collars are excellent in walking and training, however, for this reason, a martingale collar should never be worn unsupervised.

If you would like to have a collar that can be worn throughout day and night for the ID tag, we recommend having a house-collar (the collars without a martingale system) that sits close to your dog’s body. This way you can attach the ID tag to the house-collar and place the martingale collar above the house-collar when you are out for a walk.

The wear and tear of your item will vary significantly depending on your dog’s lifestyle. If your dog is particularly active or rough and love going for a swim on the beach, we recommend limiting the use of martingale collars to when going for a dry walk and have a seperate collar for more adventurous activities. 

Our items are carefully handmade and will last a long time if well cared for. Please find our Product Care Guide. If you have multiple collars already, we recommend alternating them regularly so that you can enjoy your collars for an extended period. Also, it is fun to dress them up with different items!
